Tirupati is near Tirumala, which is the home of Lord Tirumala Venkateswara. It is situated in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Devotees come to Tirupati throughout the year. It is called the spiritual capital of Andhra Pradesh.

Tirupati is well connected by various national and state highways. National Highway 71 connects Tirupati with Madanpalle and Nayudupeta, while National Highway 140 connects it to Puthalapattu. Buses to Tirupati are most common.
Tirupati Main is the main railway station. However, Renigunta train station, which is on the Chennai-Mumbai line is just 15 km away from Tirupati. Usually, people board buses to Tirupati from Renigunta Railway Station.

Tirupati Airport is 14 km away from Tirupati and 40 km away from Tirumala. There are regular flights to and from Tirupati for Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi and almost capitals and important cities of all the states in the country. There are plans to upgrade this airport to facilitate international flights.

Tirupati is the ninth-most populous city in Andhra Pradesh and is considered one of Indias holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites because of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, among others, atop one of the seven peaks of Tirumala Hills. The temples attract scores of Hindu pilgrims every day. In the years 2012-13, it was named the Best Heritage City by the Ministry of Tourism and has been selected to be developed as a smart city by the Government. The city is well connected to nearby cities by road and rail.
